Gateshead family-run kitchen design house, RDA, is expanding its project department as it reports that orders continue to flood in.

Paul Hume has been appointed to the position of project manager as part of RDA’s larger recruitment plan, and will be based primarily in the south.

Sales and turnover have both picked up after a brief lull during the first lockdown. RDA responded to the change in circumstances by both developing a new product line of Micromarkets and diversifying its service offerings.

The strategy has included a new range of brochures aimed at clients in the education sector, stadia and arenas, healthcare, and B&I, as well as its core business of catering and hospitality.

The distributor has also delivered targeted newsletter mailshots to show its customer base what it offers. There has been a positive response, as orders surpassed pre-pandemic levels, and RDA also found it needed to expand its staff team to answer the increased demand.

Hume brings a wealth of experience with him to his project manager role, working in the industry for decades, and his expertise aligns with the sectors that RDA operates in.

He began his career as a refrigeration engineer for Stangard before becoming an installation manager. He then moved into project management for KCCJ, Vision and then IFSE.

Hume said: “The best thing about project management is seeing the transformation of a space, and handing the finished job over to a happy client at the end. And RDA is a great move for me.

“I’ve been aware of their work for some time through industry press and their awards. What sets them apart is their long-term strategy. They’re always thinking one step ahead and planning for the future.

“And they’ve been so welcoming. The fact that it’s a family-run business is fully apparent in the ethos of the company. They really look after their staff.”

Hume joins a project management team overseen by director, Neil Addyman, who said: “We’re delighted that Paul has joined us here at RDA. With his impressive history of experience across all sectors of our business, he’s a valuable asset.

“Paul has been able to seamlessly fit into our operation. He knows the industry inside out. It feels like he’s been with us for years.”
